The purpose of the summer school is to discuss the latest developments in sustainable food packaging, and train talent with a more holistic approach to food packaging business entrepreneurship.

This summer school responds to the needs of the new circular economy and create start-up ideas.This is an urgent need that requires tremendous collaborative efforts, in an environment still very fragmented, from municipalities recycling policies, to consumer demands, to technical challenges in supply chain and distribution, and of course, food quality and safety of the product. 

The program, targeted to YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS, talented Master, PhD students and young professionals, offers a unique 3 weeks online program that allows students to experience creative thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship, with the final objective of translating their findings into real-world business solutions. Training will be delivered through a mix of  guest lecturers from industry and academia, and group work, to allow participants to generate an idea,  strengthen it with the help of qualified mentors, and pitch it in a professional setting.  There will be two monetary awards for the best solutions!

Competence Building

The participants will be able to:

Explain and Interpret state of the art knowledge in food packaging, including materials, food safety and quality aspects, challenges in decreasing waste, circularity (recyclability, reusability).

Integrate multidisciplinary knowledge on the circular economy of food packaging.

Develop a business idea using entrepreneurial skills using a business canvas specially prepared for packaging sustainability, and present the idea in a professional setting to industrial partners.

The Structure

The program will run from November 1, 2021 to November 19, 2021 FULLY ONLINE, with a mix of synchronous and asynchronus events. The first and second week it will be 8-10 hours / week of Online learning at your own pace, additional (about 4 hours) of synchrononus touch points and team work. The third week will be packed of team work and inspirational lectures by experts from industry and academia, and entrepreneurs. The program will be delivered mostly in the afternoons, allowing you to work also on other in person courses, or go on with your business.

The school will give the participants time to learn about entrepreneurship, update on the state of the art, and most importantly, generate a business idea to be then tested during the week long bootcamp.

All participants will be exposed to qualified mentors, and will work in multidisciplinary teams, to develop, test and pitch their ideas. They will be building their business case using state of the art entrepreneurship tools.

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM AND SPEAKERS:

Week 1- entrepreneurship basics, the challenge and team building; Week 2: focus on the problem solution fit and mentors from Industry and academia; Week 3 bootcamp on design thinking, ideation and prototyping, the business canvas model and expert lectures. Friday November 19 final event, with pitches evaluated by a jury of professional experts. 2000€ prize will be awarded to the best team!

Who should apply

This program is for young professionals with a Bachelor degree, talented Master, PhD students and young entrepreneurs from different backgrounds, interested in bulding new sustainable packagingn solutions for food.

Online platform for the summer school will open November 1, 2021 with a synchronous on line event!

The final pitch competition will be Nov 19, 2021. The event will be held fully on line. 2000 € prize for the first team!
