2022 edition (pilot)

The RIS Straight to Market programme was piloted in 2022, in Spain. The results achieved highly exceeded the ones initialy stipulated.

Participant consortiums

The 2022 edition had the participation of 2 retailers and 3 start-ups. In the end, the consortiums tested 6 new innovative products, to be launched in the market by June 2023.

EROSKI + JAKION

Eroski is a Spanish supermarket chain with nearly 1,000 outlets spread across Spain (excluding franchises). The establishments vary in size from the largest hypermarkets, simply named 'Eroski' (of which there are 75 stores, including 40 with petrol stations), down to smaller 'EroskiCenter' stores (473, including 2 petrol stations). It is run as a worker-consumer hybridco-operative within the Mondragon Corporation group. The Mondragon Corporation is a corporation and federation of worker cooperatives based in the Basque region of Spain.

Jakion was created with the intention to recover, promote and strengthen the agricultural strengthen and the agricultural activity of the farmhouses in the region of DebaGaraia (North of Spain), providing them with services that make possible the maintenance of their agricultural activity in a dignified manner. The main reason for the launching of this new company was focused on the promotion of agricultural diversification activities, directed to the “baserritarras” (local farmers) through an organization and obtaining of internal collaborations and the sales of the production through a production output through a transformation centre that provides its products, in addition to a Sanitary Register, with an added value, an identity and a possibility of accessing new markets.

MARKET SOSTENIBLES + NEOALGAE + DESPELTA

Market Sostenibles is the first marketplace for small sustainable producers in Spain. Having a relevant capacity, market penetration and experience in commercialization of innovative, healthier and sustainable products with their proprietary digital marketplace platforms: Market sostenibles (B2C) catering end-consumers; and Market sostenibles Empresas (B2B) for professional customers (restaurants and local retailers).

Neoalgae is an Asturian biotechnological SME with an entrepreneurial and innovative character whose activity revolves around microalgae biotechnology Its mission is to contribute to the nutrition and health of people, as well as the care of the environment, through the development of different products based on microalgae that guarantee personal well-being in different areas (food, cosmetics, health) and environmental sustainability. (through agricultural and animal products).

Despelta is a spanish SME that began pioneering experimental crops of organic spelt wheat in Spain. The main goal was to find alternatives to conventional crops, recovering ancient crops – some almost disappearing– but also to explore new ways to generate wealth and opportunities in rural depopulated areas in Castilla La-Mancha. They built their flour mill so the raw materials could be transformed in situ to obtain high quality and high value products, packed and certified, thus having an impact to bring wealth and job opportunities to rural areas. Despelta brand was created as the first organic certified spelt flour handcraft produced in Spain (and stone-milled). Since then they have been exploring and recovering ancient varieties of grain.
