With a business plan and knowledge: how EWA 2024 participants from Ukraine turn ideas into solutions
10 participants of the Empowering Women in Agrifood (EWA) programme attended the second offline event in EWA programme - Masterclass, where they got to know each other better, took a tour of MHP's innovative culinary centre, and learned how to write a business plan.
The Empowering Women in Agrifood (EWA) programme, implemented by Radar Tech aims to support women innovators in the agrifood sector, providing them with education, mentorship, and financial assistance for the best solutions to develop innovation ideas.
The Masterclass event is the second offline meeting. The event took place on 12th July, and aimed to introduce women to understanding business processes, help them develop a business plan for their solutions via lean canvas, and demonstrate to the participants how one of the innovative Ukrainian enterprises works.
The day began with a visit to MHP's culinary centre, an innovative space where culinary processes are improved through the ideas of Ready to Cook (RtC) and Ready to Eat (RtE). The programme participants had the opportunity to talk to the centre's professionals about production and business processes. They knew more about the test concepts: from generating ideas to producing dishes, industrializing culinary solutions, or conducting training events for their staff. In particular, the participants visited the demo kitchen, toured the development kitchens, and talked to the laboratory staff, where products are evaluated through “blind” tastings.
Training session on business models creation
Following the tour, participants were hosted by America House Kyiv, where they attended a training session on business models writing by filling out the Lean Canvas.
Training session was conducted by two of the programme's mentors and experts: Natalia Maievska – marketing consultant in AgriFood, agri-entrepreneur, scientist, founder of the asparagus startup TM BerdychivSky, executive Director of Ukrainian Food Valley, expert in USAID ERA's AGRI project; and also Mariia Romanova – CEO Radar Tech, innovation expert and startup mentor. Each participant worked with their business model and received advice and counselling from a mentor.
Next, the programme participants will research the target audience, prepare a business income and expenses list, work on a SWOT analysis, etc. Finally, they will prepare pitches of their solutions for the Pitching event at the end of November.
The EWA programme represents a significant step towards empowering women entrepreneurs in Ukraine's agricultural sector, fostering innovation, and contributing to the country's economic growth and sustainable future in agriculture. Running from June to November 2024, the programme includes three offline events and culminates in a final Demo Day in November. The most promising projects eligible for grants of €5000 and €10000 to further develop their businesses.
