Test Farms links agricultural startups with farmers and testing-land. 

Through enabling these links EIT Food wants to help innovative agritech ideas to validate and test their products and services,showcase their business to customers and investors and finally support the technological transformation in European agriculture. 

Benefits

Test Farms programme is designed to link startups that are looking to validate their agricultural solutions with farmers or agricultural/pasture land to do a pilot project.

You will receive:

  • Matchmaking with farmers/agricultural or pasture land with the required conditions for a successful pilot project. 
  • The opportunity to do a pilot with professional farmers in a realistic setting in Spain, Portugal and Bulgaria to achieve validation of your agricultural solution.
  • Possibilities to showcase your solution in a realistic setting to display your proof of concept during Demo Day organised at the site of farmer.
  • Access to EIT Food network.
  • 3000 EUR budget to support the travel and testing phase.

Program outline

Update on the important dates (20.04.2020)

  1. Application deadline : 24.05.2020 ( NEW DATE) 
  2. Evaluation and selection of program participants : 25.05—7.06.2020 
  3. Announcement of the results: 10.06.2020 
  4. Match-making event : September 2020 (TBC) - Shortlisted startups will be invited to join one 2-day match-making events. At these events, they will meet with farmers, evaluate the possibility of testing their innovative solutions on their premises and together create a plan for testing the technology.
  5. Testing phase : September 2020 - September 2021Startups test their solution on the premises of the farmer/test field according to the plan created during the match-making event.
  6. Demo Day – September 2020 - September 20201 - Following the testing, selected startups together with farmers will organise a Demo Day for local farmers/clients to attend, test the solution and possibly buy the product/service.

Eligibility requirements

EIT Food is looking for startups with have a practical agricultural solution for farmers to help them tackle their most urgent challenges and improve the quality and safety of produce. Startups need to have a developed product/service that is ready for validation in the field.

Eligibility requirements:

  • The applicant is a company registered in one of the following countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Greece.
  • The applicant has received no more than 60,000 euros in funding from EIT Food in 2020.  
  • The applicant has developed an innovative solution in agriculture/animal husbandry. 
  • EIT Food has six overarching strategic themes to transform our food system. Selected startups needs to work towards one of them. The 6 themes are: 
  • Alternative proteins 
  • Sustainable agriculture 
  • Targeted nutrition 
  • Digital traceability  
  • Circular food systems 
  • An Applicant who has submitted a complete application, i.e. answered all the questions included in the form available on the following website: https://www.f6s.com/testfarms , completed and attached all the required attachments.
  • Participants of 2019 editions Test Farms Poland or Test Farms Spain are ineligible for the program.
  • EIT Food's RisingFoodStars members who are currently participating (Business Plan 2020) or have participated in previous years in projects within EIT Food consortium are ineligible for the program.
