Why the Alliance Exists
Europe Cannot Afford to Miss the Biotech Opportunity. Biotechnology is rapidly becoming one of the most important drivers of economic growth, food security, sustainability and industrial competitiveness.
By 2040:
• 60% of what we grow and produce could be impacted by biotechnology
• 55% of biotechnology value creation could come from food and agriculture
• €140 billion of additional value could be generated through food biotechnology in Europe
Yet Europe risks falling behind.
Despite world-class science and innovation, fragmented infrastructure, limited scale-up capacity, regulatory bottlenecks and insufficient access to capital continue to slow industrial deployment.

The Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA)
The Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA) is the Alliance's shared roadmap for accelerating agri-food biotechnology in Europe. Co-developed with more than 130 organisations across industry, research, startups, investors and policymakers, it identifies the key priorities, technologies and actions needed to strengthen Europe's competitiveness, resilience and leadership in food and feed biotechnology.

Why was the Alliance created now?
Europe has world-class scientific capabilities but faces growing global competition in biotechnology. The Alliance was created to help align stakeholders, reduce fragmentation and accelerate Europe's ability to translate innovation into industrial and economic impact.
