NUTRItious, sensory and texture optimized plant-based SEAfood (NUTRI-SEA)

The NUTRI-SEA project, led by Happy Ocean Foods, addresses the urgent need for sustainable protein by developing delicious, nutritious, clean-label plant-based seafood alternatives that satisfy consumer demands and reduce pressure on marine ecosystems.

2024
2026

With the NUTRI-SEA project, Happy Ocean Foods aims to enhance, scale up, and accelerate the protein transition by introducing truly fish-like, plant-based seafood alternatives—Tyuna, Salmyn, and Whitefysh. These products are crafted using sustainable, allergen-free proteins and High-Moisture Extrusion technology to create additive-free seafood that is high in protein and rich in omega-3 fatty acids (DHA + EPA). Designed to replicate traditional seafood in taste, texture, and nutrition, they address critical issues such as overfishing and microplastic contamination. In collaboration with Aarhus University’s Department of Food Science, we combine advanced processing with sensory profiling and consumer research to scale production to 1,500 tons annually by 2030, expand across Europe, and deliver clean-label, nutrient-rich seafood alternatives to tens of thousands of consumers.
