Nutridono – Nourish, Don’t Just Feed
Very often, the food distributed by distribution centers does not support adequate nutritional value. That’s why NutriDono was designed: a project aimed at improving the quality of food provided and made accessible to families facing economic hardship.
Project Overview
The project aims to improve the quality and nutritional value of food aid provided to vulnerable families. By combining volunteer training, nutritional education, and data collection, it seeks to ensure that food support contributes not only to immediate needs but also to long-term health and well-being.
Objectives
- Train and support third-sector volunteers in distributing food products to vulnerable families that are nutritionally appropriate for the needs.
- Strengthen awareness among low-income families about the importance of proper nutrition for their health.
- Engage children in having healthy eating habits from an early age.
- Improve the quality and variety of distributed and available food, making it more suitable and aligned with nutritional guidelines.
- Gather data regarding the current amounts of food items available or distributed to vulnerable families.
- Raise awareness within the food distribution system about the need to include foods that support the health and well-being of beneficiaries.
Target Groups
The project primarily involves volunteers from food distribution organizations, who are trained to support families in making healthier choices. Vulnerable families are the main beneficiaries, receiving both food and basic guidance on nutrition. Children are engaged through simple educational activities to encourage healthy habits early on.
Implementation
The project is being implemented in 13 food distribution centers in Italy and 10 in Germany, involving charitable organizations that support low-income families. Key partners include Cooperativa Roma Solidarietà, CAIR, and ADRA Italia in Italy, and the Tafel Akademie in Germany.
Digital Tool: NutriDono App
The NutriDono App supports the project by helping assess families’ nutritional needs and suggesting suitable food packages. It also collects basic data on food distribution and promotes healthier and more balanced choices.
