Last week, we hosted our first in-person Agrifood Expert Community (AFEC) event as a pre-session to EIT Food's flagship Next Bite conference on food innovation in Rome.
Over 40 participants from across Europe attended this engaging two-hour interactive session focused on collaboration and knowledge sharing.
After nearly a year of refining AFEC's model to better serve the agrifood sector and our expert community, we were excited to present the evolution of AFEC, highlighting new services available to both experts and organisations in the industry.
During the event, we unveiled our rebranded identity, which reflects this evolution, along with our new website designed to enable experts to join the community and allow organisations to hire experts to address pressing challenges they face in their businesses.
Estefi Frontero, a Social Intelligence Consultant from 21gramos, presented a new policy study on food waste. In light of the global economic, environmental, and social challenges posed by food waste, this initiative—developed in partnership with EIT Food South—aims to identify effective policies and best practices for reducing food loss across Europe, particularly in Southern regions..
Following her presentation, a panel discussion featured two AFEC experts: João Cotter, co-founder and CEO of Aquaponics Iberia, and Dr. Erzsébet Némedi, founder of Expedit Nodum R&D Consulting Agency.
They shared their experiences and offered valuable insights into food waste management, innovative approaches, and the pressing challenges facing the agrifood sector today.
The event concluded with a hands-on workshop where participants were divided into groups based on their specific business challenges related to food waste. They collaborated to identify problems, gather evidence supporting those issues, explore potential partnerships for solutions, and outline their immediate needs for further collaboration. The objective of this workshop was to foster connections between experts, identify synergies and common needs, and encourage project collaboration.
