The European Researchers’ Night, organised by the University of the Basque Country (EHU), is part of a pan-European initiative taking place in more than 25 countries and 460 cities across Europe, aimed at sparking scientific curiosity and encouraging interest in research among young people and families. It was a unique opportunity for Los Salvacomidas and FoodEducators to show Basque families the importance of adopting healthier and more sustainable eating habits through fun and practical activities.
Los Salvacomidas and FoodEducators joined forces with researcher and lecturer Paloma Rohlfs Domínguez, from the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the EHU, to offer visitors an experience under the motto “Learn and teach how to eat healthier and more sustainably in an easy way”. Our stand became an interactive space where children could discover how to improve their diet, read food labels correctly, identify ultra-processed products, and reflect on food waste.
Beyond the games and workshops, we wanted families to be able to continue working on these lessons at home. That is why we handed out educational materials and gave them the chance to enter a draw for an exclusive Los Salvacomidas and FoodEducators kit, full of resources and accessories designed to keep encouraging healthy lifestyle habits.
Taking part in this event was also the perfect occasion to promote FoodEducators activities and Los Salvacomidas School Competition, aimed at teachers and primary schools. Through these programmes, teachers can work in the classroom with activities from our teaching units on nutrition, leftover cooking, food waste and more. In addition, participating schools in Los Salvacomidas School Contest have the chance to win prizes of up to €1,000 – an incentive to keep promoting food education from an early age.
