What sustainable fish feed is out there?
Meet Kidemis, an EIT Food startup based in Switzerland who are a sustainable biotech company that applies mycelium-based fermentation to upcycle low-value side streams into high value protein for various industries. They use technology to produce novel, functional and sustainable nutrition solutions with a main focus on aquaculture.
1) What is your idea?
“At Kidemis, we’re developing sustainable fish feed using side streams transformed by mycelium into a nutrient-rich, protein-packed solution. Currently, the aquafeed market is dominated by two main options: soy feed and traditional fish feed. Both of these are not sustainable and often come with high costs. Our approach addresses these challenges by offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative that supports better practices in aquaculture while reducing waste in food production.”
2) Where can we find your products?
“Our feed products will be available directly to aquaculture farms and distributors. As we continue to grow, we are expanding our reach across Europe, aiming to make our sustainable food more accessible to a broader audience. We are also exploring partnerships with retailers to bring our products to more local markets, ensuring that aquaculture operators can easily source our sustainable solutions.”
3) How has EIT Food helped you on your journey?
“EIT Food has been instrumental in our development, providing invaluable mentorship and networking opportunities that have helped us refine our business strategy and expand our approach. The resources and connections we've gained through EIT Food have significantly accelerated our growth.”
