Climate change, unpredictable weather, and rising input costs are challenging farmers across Western Europe like never before. But there’s a solution taking root across the continent- regenerative agriculture. By focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and resilient farm systems, regenerative agriculture is helping farmers secure their livelihoods and protect the land for future generations.

EIT Food works with a lot of projects in regenerative agriculture pan Europe, ranging from South, North, West and East. In this blog, there is a special focus on the Western European countries and its associated projects.

Why Resilient Agriculture Matters?

Resilient agriculture isn’t just a buzzword- it’s a necessity. Western Europe’s farmers face increasing pressures:

  • Extreme weather: Droughts, floods, and heatwaves disrupt planting and harvest.
  • Soil degradation: Intensive farming practices have left soils tired and less productive.
  • Market volatility: Fluctuating prices and input costs squeeze farm profits.

Regenerative agriculture offers a way forward. By reducing tillage, keeping soils covered year-round, maximizing biodiversity, and integrating livestock, farmers can build healthier soils, increase yields, and boost farm resilience which results in greater profitability, improved environmental outcomes, and a more secure food system for all.

Introducing the ScaleUp Regenerative Agriculture Programme

The EIT Food ScaleUp Programme helps farmers by delivering hands-on, farmer-focused training with everything they need to get started.

  • Expert-led training: Learn the principles and practices of regenerative agriculture in your local language.
  • Peer support: Join a community of like-minded farmers, share experiences, and build your network.
  • Personalised advisory: Receive tailored advice and on-farm support to put new practices into action.
  • Ongoing learning: Benefit from field trips, networking sessions, and practical tools to guide your journey.

Whether you’re a smallholder or manage a large operation, ScaleUp is designed for you. The programme spanning 1- or 2-day training sessions cover key topics such as soil health, ecosystem diversity, economic benefits, and more, giving you the confidence to farm sustainably for the future.

Tentative modules of the course include:

  1. Introduction to Regenerative Agriculture and principles of Regenerative Agriculture;
  2. Soil Health and Fertility;
  3. Farm ecosystem diversity and animal husbandry integration;
  4. Economic and environmental benefits for farms;
  5. Field trip: the objective of the training is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to adapt resiliency-based, soil and ecosystem regenerative practices by understanding key applicable practices on different farms in diverse geographic regions

Details about the programmes:

EIT Food will facilitate trainings based on regenerative agriculture or a specific crop in Ireland (3 trainings), Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria, France (2 trainings), Germany (2 trainings) and UK in the period between September and December 2025. Exact dates and details to be followed soon.
