Sunflower seeds are the new dairy alternatives
Meet the Time-Travelling Milkman, an EIT Food startup from the Netherlands who are producing and selling stable plant-based fat ingredients for sustainable and appetizing dairy alternatives. They say no to using animals for dairy, and instead use seeds from plants such as sunflowers to produce a creamy milk alternative.
1) What is your idea?
"We produce an equivalent to dairy cream from plants. It's a creamy solution (ingredient) that can revolutionize and future-proof dairy and non-dairy products by shortening their label, enriching them with unsaturated fats, lowering their footprint and increasing their indulgence. In short, it's the new standard of creaminess."
2) Where can we find your products?
"Oleocream, our creaminess solution, can be found inside creamy cheeses, sauces and cooking creams with ice creams and desserts following suit. Next time you try a plant-based creamy cheese, and it surprises you with its creaminess and high Nutriscore, there is a good chance that it contains Oleocream. For ice-cream, just wait for the next season..."
3) How has EIT Food helped you on your journey?
"EIT Food has truly helped us to transform from a Dutch start-up to a European one. Once we joined one of their programmes (EIT FAN) we came in contact with a multitude of startups and were introduced to several relevant corporates. This happened both at the great events that EIT Food organizes but also directly with personal introductions. The support is constant, immediate and genuine. This is why our Managing Director and Co-founder, Dimitris Karefyllakis, decided to become an EIT Food Alumni Country Representative in the Netherlands."
