Food Entrepreneurship made in Bavaria supports scientists to become startup entrepreneurs
Supporting scientists to become startup entrepreneurs and bring their innovation to the markets is something we are invested in here at EIT Food, and one of our projects does just that!
What is Food Entrepreneurship made in Bavaria?
Food Entrepreneurship made in Bavaria (FEMIB) is a project funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Landesentwicklung und Energie that we are running together with our strategic partner Technical University of Munich. It aims to boost Bavarian agrifood startups and supports young teams at the transition from innovative research projects into startup business models.
The Impact from the Project
As the first project phase comes to an end, we were delighted to able to show the project’s impact to the Bavarian state secretary Tobias Gotthardt and Technical University of Munich President Thomas Hoffmann, who were both indeed very happy.
Thomas F. Hofmann, president of TU Munich: “We have all the possibilities to build a Bavarian “Silicon Valley” for Food here with all the partners in the food industry, the ministry and of course EIT Food with its impressive European Community".
Bavarian State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt: “‘Hats off to the creative ideas that are born here. Whether building material from mushroom cultures, insulating material from hop waste or cooking oil from yeast cultures - everything is here for innovative business models in the areas of food, nutrition and agriculture. We are happy to support these ideas. With the FEMIB project, we are pulling together and creating a good basis for our founders from Bavaria".
Startup Updates...
From the 26 FEMIB teams, 10 were selected to showcase how they were able to develop scientifically and commercially thanks to receiving FEMIB grants.
Several Bavarian Startups from the FEMIB project made it into the EIT Food Seedbed incubator as perfect follow-up programme.
EIT Food Central Managing Director, Jerome Hamacher: "We are very happy that with FEMIB we can build a bridge between the regional Bavarian ecosystem and our European AgriFood Community".
