EIT Food South

EIT Food South developed WP1: Misión Salvacomidas, in two cities of Spain

The objective of Misión Salvacomidas was to raise awareness of consumers (especially the young ones) to the problem of food waste, as well as to teach them creative ways in which they can change habits towards healthier practises and reduce the amount of food wasted at a local level. On the other hand, it aimed at developing their critical thinking as consumers: the ability to assess facts and evidence to drive decision-making, including constructive questioning of the status quo.

This was done by developing collaborative activities/workshops that engage the consumers of a community through education. The activities involved not only children, but also their parents, to educate all members of a household about how they can collectively help reducing food waste, leading to a better domestic economy and a healthier planet.

The aim of the workshops was that participants can learn more about the food systems and how to actively improve them, namely:

  • Causes and consequences of food waste
  • Daily choices that help reducing food waste
  • Advantages of reusing products

The activity Misión Salvacomidas was developed twice, in two different cities of Spain: Burgos and Zaragoza.
