Pioneering farmers
Through a series of activities for European citizens, we also aim to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting the environment while delivering healthy, nutrients dense foods and supporting the livelihoods of farmers, who are the first and often fragile link in the food supply chain.

Can regenerative agriculture replace conventional farming?
Read our blog on whether regenerative agriculture can replace conventional farming. Some great insights from leading thinkers and doers in the space.
Kiss The Ground
Narrated and featuring Woody Harrelson, Kiss the Ground is an inspiring and groundbreaking film that reveals the first viable solution to our climate crisis.
Kiss the Ground reveals that, by regenerating the world’s soils, we can completely and rapidly stabilize Earth’s climate, restore lost ecosystems and create abundant food supplies. Using compelling graphics and visuals, along with striking NASA and NOAA footage, the film artfully illustrates how, by drawing down atmospheric carbon, soil is the missing piece of the climate puzzle.
This movie is positioned to catalyze a movement to accomplish the impossible – to solve humanity’s greatest challenge, to balance the climate and secure our species future.
Regenerative Agriculture: Starting out
What are the steps for creating a regenerative farm? Matt Eastland is joined on the Food Fight podcast by Farmer and Founding Director of the Sustainable Food Trust, Patrick Holden, and Agriculture Project Manager at EIT Food, Philip Fernandez, to discuss regenerative agriculture. If you are interested in improving soil health and increasing biodiversity through sustainable food production, then this podcast is for you.
The 'Rebel' with the regenerative vineyard
It’s no secret to Eduardo Azpillaga that, in his local area of Lanciego (Rioja Alavesa), he has always been known as a ‘rebel. He wears the reputation with grace - and even a little pride - because he acknowledges that his approach to agriculture and viticulture has certainly been unconventional. Ever since his father handed him the reigns of the family winery, Azpillaga Urarte, Eduardo has been clear about his calling: to cultivate the healthiest possible soil (using as few artificial chemical additives as possible) in order to produce wine and oil of the best possible quality. And after 25 years at the helm of the business, he feels satisfied he has achieved his goal.
Soil is life
Soil sustains all life on our planet. And yet, for decades, industrial farming practices have degraded and depleted the soil we depend on. It’s time for a change – and farmers like Matteo Mazzola and Paola Archetti are leading the way. In this film, we take a tour of their farm on the stunning hillside above Lago d’Iseo, Italy, as Matteo explains how he’s promoting a healthy ecosystem from the soil up. Using low-cost, sustainable innovations alongside traditional farming techniques, Matteo and Paola are replenishing the land for generations to come – and proving that modern farming really needn’t cost the earth.
Becoming a farmer again
After many years as a conventional farmer, Francesc Font Rovira knew something had to change. Barely making a profit, his monocultures were vulnerable to disease, and he knew his practices were destroying the environment.
Now, he is one of the farmers at the forefront of a sustainable farming movement: the Regenerative Agriculture Revolution. Regenerative agriculture is all about working in harmony with nature, rather than against it – for the benefit of farmers, consumers and the natural environment. By ditching chemical additives, integrating animals and diversifying crops, Francesc is producing more nutritious food and replenishing the land for generations to come.
The Circular soil economy
Francisco hasn’t always grown olives. In fact, he only started at the age of 52, which is why he considers himself a ‘young farmer’. Until 2013, Francisco and his family worked in the textiles industry. “The economic crisis, alongside the offshoring of many factories in the sector meant we had to find a new business. My family already worked the farm, running both businesses side by side, but I had never taken much interest in it,” explains Francisco. But when the factory closed, he began working the land full time...
