IMPACT-LCA

This project builds an automated, data-driven LCA system that links farm-level sustainability data with product and organisational footprints. The goal is to give every value-chain actor—from farmer to processor—actionable KPIs to accelerate environmental performance improvements.

IMPACT-LCA (Automated LCA & farm-level data for full value chain, KPI driven decision-making) develops the first automated, full value-chain footprinting platform for the dairy sector, addressing the challenge that 80% of a product’s environmental impact occurs on farms while processors must report Scope 3 and product-level footprints under CSRD and PEF. Existing tools rely heavily on secondary data and fragmented systems, making accurate and actionable footprinting difficult.

The project enables scalable primary data collection directly from digital tools already used by farmers, ensuring high-quality, real-time environmental data flows into a harmonized LCA engine aligned with PEF 3.1, CSRD KPIs, and UCD standards. At launch, the platform will be accessible to over 18,000 dairy farmers, with strong potential to scale rapidly as additional regions and integrations are added. Over 18 months, the consortium will validate the automated farm-to-factory model with partners, deliver modular country-specific LCA components, and build dashboards to support sourcing decisions, compliance, and mitigation actions. The result is a validated, scalable solution that reduces farm data burden by up to 80%, lowers manufacturer compliance costs by up to 40%, and provides actionable KPIs to improve environmental performance across the dairy value chain.

Project partners include: Sproutfull, Uniform-Agri B.V, University College Dublin, and Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods.
