Project Credible

Project Credible is an EU-funded Coordination and Support Action under the Mission Soil initiative, supporting Europe’s transition towards carbon farming at scale. In its second phase (June 2026–May 2029), Credible supports the implementation of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation by turning ambition into practice through practical tools, knowledge and operational solutions.

   • Phase 1 (June 2023 – May 2026): Focused on building momentum and driving high-level conversations to shape carbon farming frameworks, standards, and policies.
   • Phase 2 (June 2026 – May 2029): Focuses on accelerating the practical deployment of carbon farming and contributing to the robust implementation of the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation.

Project Credible brings together key actors across science,  policy, markets and practice to consolidate knowledge, build capacity and strengthen trust in carbon farming standards, Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems and projects. It intends to contribute to creating fertile conditions for the launch of certified carbon farming projects, particularly at landscape level, by providing further evidence for rigorous actions and monitoring, and by facilitating a systemic process to make knowledge available for implementation at all levels.

The European Carbon Farming Summit, Credible’s flagship initiative, provides a leading space for high-level dialogue, knowledge exchange and visibility. By fostering collaboration and unlocking enabling policies, business models and technical foundations, Credible helps accelerate the robust and timely implementation of carbon farming across Europe.

Main Goals:

  1. Fostering a systemic implementation of carbon farming

The project sets out to provide a state-of-the-art overview of the knowledge base on carbon farming, consolidating scattered scientific and practical knowledge into user-friendly guidelines across key land uses: arable land, agroforestry, grasslands, forestry, and peatlands. By identifying knowledge and implementation gaps, the project is committed to providing actionable guidance to support stakeholders and land managers in deploying context-specific practices that maximise sustainable carbon sequestration.

  2. Unlocking enablers of robust, multi-purpose Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems

The project aims to strengthen the foundations for robust and interoperable MRV systems by enhancing data flows across public and private actors, connecting data collection centres, and integrating remote and in situ data streams.

  3. Improving policy coherence around carbon farming and unlocking market opportunities

The project intends to contribute to CRCF coherence across policy areas (horizontal) and geographical and governance levels (vertical), as well as to assess the roles for CRCF units in climate policy and corporate reporting. Moreover, the project aims to identify barriers and enablers for private sector engagement in carbon farming.

  4. Unearthing pathways towards landscape-based carbon farming activities and certification

The project aims to explore landscape-based approaches to carbon farming, focusing on the integrity effects, governance models, and benefit-sharing mechanisms that facilitate the emergence of blended public and private funding models.

  5. Supporting operationalisation and fostering multi-actor dialogues

The European Carbon Farming Summit will remain the project’s main initiative and the central annual forum for cross-sector discussions around the present and future of carbon farming. Moreover, the project aims to develop and position a digital platform as the main digital networking tool and knowledge repository for the European Community of Practice. The project will also offer training sessions, webinars, workshops and courses to support policymakers, land managers, market actors, and the scientific community.
