EIT Food at COP29:

At COP29 in Baku, EIT Food co-organised the Side Event: Protein Diversification – Interconnected Challenges of Climate Change, Nutrition, and Food Security, held in the Benelux-EIB pavilion in collaboration with dsm-firmenich and Clim-Eat. This blue zone event explored the role of alternative proteins in tackling global food security challenges, mitigating climate change, and improving nutrition.

Moderated by Robert E. Jones (Mosa Meat), the discussion featured insights from Richard Zaltzman (CEO, EIT Food) and other experts, highlighting the need for innovation and collaboration to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable protein system.

The Power of Protein Diversification for Future-Fit Farming

EIT Food’s flagship event, Next Bite, took place in Rome, uniting innovators, policymakers, and thought leaders to shape the future of agrifood systems. Protein diversification was a key topic in two sessions:

  • The Power of Protein Diversification for Future-Fit Farming explored its link to regenerative agriculture, insights from the Think Tank and GROW project, and funding models.
  • Protein Diversification & Europe’s Food Security focused on innovation and policy for a resilient food system.

The event aimed to also share information with decision-makers and stakeholders, especially in the EU.

Press Briefing: Protein Diversification. Food System Pavilion at COP28

The Think Tank Policy Brief, 'Accelerating Protein Diversification for Europe,' was globally launched during the Protein Diversification Press Briefing event at the Food Systems Pavilion.

This gathering brought together entrepreneurs and experts who shared the latest research, insights and innovations in protein diversification.

Future of Food conference

The Future of Food Conference was EIT Food’s annual flagship event and provided a high-level platform to discuss future trends and priorities in European food innovation, in the broader context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the EU Farm to Fork Strategy.
During the Accelerating Protein Diversification for Europe breakout session, the Think Tank Policy Recommendation Paper was officially launched. This policy brief on “Accelerating Protein Diversification for Europe” sets out a comprehensive set of recommendations, advocating for a systems thinking approach and acknowledging the importance of engaging with the entire food system.
