Promoting Innovation and Growth in the Maltese Agrifood Ecosystem: EIT Food Agrifood Entrepreneurs Days 2024
Over 90 Maltese entrepreneurs benefited from two days of intensive training and networking sessions aimed at enhancing both hard and soft skills necessary for success in agrifood entrepreneurship.
EIT Food, in collaboration with MALTAccelerate, Valletta Cultural Agency, Valletta Design Cluster, and Malta Food Agency, organised the Agrifood Entrepreneurs Days on October 18th at the Startup Festival Malta and on October 19th at Valletta Design Cluster. The initiative aims to strengthen the agrifood innovation and startup ecosystem in outermost regions (ORs) by providing tailored training and networking opportunities to aspiring entrepreneurs in the sector.
On the first day, more than 60 participants gathered at the Startup Festival Malta for a dynamic networking session. The event brought together key players from Malta’s agrifood and innovation ecosystems, including startups, investors, ventures, academia, and industry associations. Participants engaged in an open discussion about the unique challenges and emerging opportunities in Malta's agrifood sector.
The second day, held at the Valletta Design Cluster, attracted 32 Maltese entrepreneurs for an intensive training session. EIT Food’s team, including Teresa Aguirre (Ecosystem Manager), Oksana Hrynevych (Agriculture Project Manager), and Celia Alija (Entrepreneurship Project Manager), kicked off the day with an insightful presentation on EIT Food’s initiatives and innovations in the agrifood sector.
The session covered vital topics such as public funding opportunities for agrifood startups, branding, and marketing strategies to help entrepreneurs develop their unique voice and image in the market. The event concluded with a Pitch Skills Development workshop, where experts guided participants on how to effectively present their ideas to attract investors and stakeholders, putting into practice the knowledge they had gained throughout the event.
Initiatives like the EIT Food Agrifood Entrepreneurs Days are crucial for fostering innovation in regions where geographic isolation can pose challenges. These events demonstrate that, despite such obstacles, significant growth and development are achievable through focused support, collaboration, and investment in the local ecosystem.
