Over 240 journalists from Southern Europe take part in the EIT Food Journalism Awards
The new edition of the EIT Food Journalism Awards has once again achieved record participation. We are now excited and ready to celebrate the winners at the upcoming award ceremonies.
In total, 241 journalists have submitted 491 articles from four countries: Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Greece. These awards, driven by EIT Food, recognise the essential work of journalists who bring to the public the main challenges and advances shaping the future of our food systems.
Spain, participating since 2019, celebrates its 7th edition this year, with 58 journalists submitting 98 pieces that reflect the country’s ongoing commitment to quality agrifood journalism.
Italy, which joined the initiative in 2020, reaches its 6th edition with an outstanding participation of 101 journalists and 205 entries, positioning itself as one of the most active and engaged countries in this call.
Portugal, part of the awards since 2021, celebrates its 5th edition with 37 journalists and 90 entries, maintaining a high standard of quality and reinforcing the visibility of agrifood communication within the country.
Finally, Greece joins the initiative for the first time in 2025, hosting its inaugural edition with an impressive debut: 45 journalists and 98 entries, reflecting the country’s growing interest in innovation and sustainability in the agrifood sector.
We are now delighted to announce the upcoming award ceremonies, which will take place in each participating country to celebrate the outstanding work of journalists who help make Europe’s agrifood system more transparent, innovative, and sustainable.
Greek Journalism Awards Ceremony
The 1st EIT Food Journalism Award Ceremony will take place on Thursday, 6 November 2025, from 17:30 to 20:00, at the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA).
The event will welcome participants both in-person and online, bringing together journalists, industry experts, academics, and representatives from civil society to celebrate the top 10 projects selected from 98 high-quality submissions and honour excellence in agrifood reporting across Greece.
Italian Journalism Awards Ceremony
The 2025 edition of the EIT Food Journalism Award will take place on Tuesday, 11 November, at Scuderia Living Lab in Bologna.
The event will celebrate the top three winners of the award, which recognizes outstanding journalistic work promoting awareness of healthier eating and greater sustainability in the agrifood sector. The ceremony will also feature engaging discussions on current challenges and innovations shaping the future of food.
Portuguese Journalism Awards Ceremony
The 5th edition of the EIT Food Journalism Award on Agrifood Innovation and Sustainability will take place on 18 November, starting at 10:00, at Casa do Impacto in Lisbon.
The event will include discussions on the rise of ultra-processed foods – covering health, innovation, and sustainability – before announcing the winners, with insights from a diverse group of speakers (to be revealed).

Spanish Journalism Awards Ceremony
The 2025 edition of the EIT Food Journalism Award in Spain will take place on 18 December at the Asociación de la Prensa de Madrid.
The event will bring together journalists, experts, and stakeholders from the agrifood sector to discuss key trends and challenges related to innovation and sustainability before announcing this year’s award winners.
