InnoWise Scale accelerates the uptake of innovation by providing water innovators with tailored mentoring, trainings and networking opportunities with end users such as industry and public sector to co-create solutions for real problems. In that sense, the programme contributes to fostering climate change readiness of the European economy.

The Spanish winery Familia Torres, family business with five generations dedicated to wine and vines, has join the 3rd edition of the InnoWise Scale initiative as problem holder searching for innovative solutions to tackle water scarcity and improve the use of available water resources.

In a context of increasing water scarcity situations and climate change, the compromise of Familia Torres towards their inheritance and their land means that they need to find alternative sources of water and water management in order to maintain their compromise towards sustainability. With that purpose, Area of Innovation and Knowledge of Familia Torres has joined InnoWise Scale to look for solutions and alternatives for the challenges with regards water management. The main challenges are related to guaranteeing the water quality for their vines and process, improve wastewater treatment methods and be a step ahead for new regulations to come in the future.

After a networking event organised by EIT Food CLC South the past 5th and 6th of October 2022 in Bilbao (Spain) with innovators from all across Europe, Familia Torres is now exploring collaboration options with the InnoWise Scale participants UTW (Spain), EZPack Water Ltd (Israel), Saba Technology (Italy), ALGAEMENTUM (Portugal), Planet (Italy), Agrobiogel (Germany), Green independence (Italy) and The Blue Future (Spain).

During over a month, the different solution providers will have the chance to explore how they can contribute to improve the situation of the Familia Torres with regards water scarcity and water management. Results will be announced during the sectoral Innowise Scale pitching competition taking place on November 28th, 2022, online.
