On October 9th, 2024, the Empowering Women in Agrifood (EWA) 2024 Masterclass in Portugal, organized by Drive Impact, the local implementer of the EWA programme, took place in Lisbon. This important in-person gathering, after months of online interaction, was filled with opportunities for learning, sharing experiences, and connecting with fellow women entrepreneurs in the agrifood sector.

A journey through agrifood innovation in Lisbon

The day began with a visit to the Muka Factory in Marvila, where the participants were welcomed by Teresa Ferreira, an EWA alumni and generous mentor. Teresa shared her knowledge and insights into the production of her renowned vegan cheeses, giving the group a tour of the facilities.

As a former participant of the EWA programme, her journey provided further inspiration to the current cohort, showcasing the tangible success that can be achieved through the programme.

Next, the group visited The Food Temple, the oldest vegetarian restaurant still operating in Lisbon. Led by Filipe Peixoto and Diogo Lourenço, the participants learned about the strong community that has formed around the restaurant and its focus on local, sustainable ingredients.

The visit also highlighted the transformative effect the restaurant has had on the Mouraria neighborhood. The lunch that followed was a perfect moment of connection, where the participants enjoyed the culinary creations of the restaurant while building stronger bonds.

Special guests and future events

The Masterclass was made even more special by the presence of Carolina Silva Marques, a representative of EIT Food, whose contributions added value to the event and inspired the participants.

Looking ahead, the next big event will be the Demo Day on November 13th, 2024, which will include a conference and will be held at the restaurant É Uma Mesa em Lisboa. This event will provide a platform for the EWA entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative projects and ideas. The community is invited to join and support these inspiring women as they present their work.
