EIT Food Journalism Award 2025 – The First Greek Edition Honours Its Winners
The first Greek edition of the EIT Food Journalism Award celebrated outstanding journalists promoting innovation and sustainability in agrifood, honouring three winners from among 98 entries and launching a new student award.
The first Greek edition of the EIT Food Journalism Award took place on Thursday, 6 November 2025, at ESIEA (Athens Journalists’ Union), in an evening dedicated to journalism that promotes innovation and sustainability in the agrifood sector.
Organised in Greece by DISSCO — Dissemination-Science-Communication, the ceremony brought together representatives from journalism, academia, entrepreneurship, and civil society.
Out of 98 entries, representing 43 journalists and 35 media outlets, the three winners of the professional journalism category were:
- Yannis Darras — “Where ‘Together’ Is Kneaded” (Video, ERT3) — 1st Prize: €2,000
- Iliana Papaggeli & Korina Petridi — “On Edge: Europe’s Farmers at a Mental Health Breaking Point” (Article, Solomon) — 2nd Prize: €1,500
- Anastasia Karadimitri — “An Agricultural Paradise in the Arid Cyclades” (Article, Sustainable Cyclades) — 3rd Prize: €750
The winners received a handcrafted symbolic sculpture — a vegetable wrapped in newspaper pages printed with excerpts from their awarded works — designed to embody the connection between journalism, food, and sustainability.
In parallel, the 1st Student Journalism Award on agrifood issues was held, featuring participants from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Ionian University, and the Agricultural University of Athens. The top three student works will be published in the next issue of Shedia Magazine, with the first-place winner also receiving an additional €200 prize.
