EIT Food hosted for 2 days Novafert's 3rd General Assembly
EIT Food is collaborating with 8 pan-European partners through Novafert project to reducing the environmental impact and the external nutrient dependence in agriculture, fostering the use of alternative fertilisers obtained from secondary raw materials.
EIT Food hosted for 2 days Novafert's 3rd General Assembly at EIT Food's facilities in Zamudio, in which all 9 partners have been together presenting last months achievements, as well as sharing and agreeing in the next steps in their path to streamline the use of alternative fertilisers
During Sept 13 to 14th, we have discussed the progress of the project and set the scene for the next few months to enhance and streamline the use of alternative fertilisers across Europe. EIT Food also had the opportunity to visit the facilities of our partner NEIKER in Arcaute to learn more about their project SEA2LAND H2020-EU and build synergies between the initiatives.
On the one hand, Novafert has been built to demonstrating the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility and safe use of a wide portfolio of alternative fertilising products made out of secondary raw materials such as sludge, reclaimed water, manure, digestates and other biowaste products. The ultimate goal is to encourage their use and facilitate the replacement of synthetic and mineral fertilization.
On the other hand, synergies have been also explored with other initiatives Neiker’s Sea2Land project aims at producing advanced bio-based fertilisers from fisheries wastes.
Both are a great initiatives to promote more circular and sustainable food systems, by transforming waste into valuable resources.
