Canary Islands Welcome Over 100 Participants at EIT Food Agrifood Entrepreneurs Days

In November 2024, agrifood entrepreneurs from the Canary Islands participated in a series of enriching training and networking sessions organised by EIT Food and ITC Canarias in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

The programme included in-depth workshops on funding opportunities, regional and European platforms, and specialised tools such as those provided by EIT Food. South Europe EIT Food General Director Begoña Pérez and EIT Community Officer in Spain Laura Ovies Díaz inaugurated the first in-person session with an insightful presentation on EIT Food's initiatives and support.

Participants explored key topics such as marketing strategies, pitching techniques, and specific support for the agrifood sector. These workshops were complemented by sessions led by experts and industry professionals, providing attendees with practical insights and innovative solutions.

Networking and Collaboration

Networking activities played a vital role in fostering meaningful connections and commercial collaborations. Entrepreneurs, local associations, and government representatives came together to discuss sector-specific challenges and opportunities. Distinguished speakers included the Canary Islands' Regional Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero; ITC CEO Guayarmina Peña; and ITC R&D Director Gonzalo Piernavieja.

The program showcased the active involvement of the regional ecosystem, including key contributions from the Canary Islands Government and the Instituto TecnolĂłgico de Canarias (ITC).

A Step Forward for Agrifood Innovation

Despite challenges, the EIT Food Agrifood Entrepreneurs Days were celebrated as a milestone for the Canary Islands' agrifood sector. By bringing together entrepreneurs, government representatives, and industry leaders, the event provided a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation. It reaffirmed the region’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainable agrifood ecosystem, paving the way for future growth and opportunities.
