AROW - AI Based Robotic Weeding

AI-Powered Non-Chemical Weed Control for Sustainable Agriculture

2023
2024

Environmental degradation and climate change pose significant challenges to global food production. In response, key EU initiatives aim to reduce chemical pesticide use by 50% and expand organic farming to at least 25% of agricultural land by 2030. However, traditional weed control methods rely heavily on agrochemicals, and the transition to organic farming requires significant increases in labor.

The AROW project addresses this challenge by advancing AI-driven, non-chemical weed control technology. Led by Ullmanna, the project integrates patented AI-powered crop recognition with robotic knife technology to develop a highly efficient, mechanical weeding solution. The AROW consortium unites experts in technology, business, and manufacturing to optimize this innovation for large-scale agricultural use.

By making non-chemical weed control more accessible and profitable, AROW accelerates the transition to sustainable farming, supports EU Green eal goals, and delivers long-term economic and environmental benefits.
