Join a roundtable discussion with top experts to learn more about the greenhouse gas emissions
According to the “Cultivating our Climate” report by the EIT Food initiative, food systems are responsible for around 30% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Europe. That figure includes both direct emissions from agriculture and fossil fuel use in the production of food and beverages, as well as indirect emissions resulting from the changes in land use and related to the use of electricity produced from fossil fuels, and emissions down the value chain.
When it comes to agriculture in Central Eastern Europe, it is important to point out that it lags behind the rest of the economy regarding GHG emissions reduction. However, according to Eurostat, Northeast Europe reduced its GHG emissions in the period from 2008 to 2009. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and the Republic of Croatia are among the countries that have reduced emissions in agriculture during this period. Such positive changes contribute to the improvement of air quality and the quality of life and the reduction in diseases caused by air pollution.

The roundtable discussion titled “Impact of GHG Emission on the Agri-food Sector” is organised within the EIT Food programme, whose activities TERA Tehnopolis d.o.o. has been implementing since 2018.
