The Empowering Women in Agrifood (EWA) programme in Türkiye, implemented by Foodback, concluded its fifth edition with an inspiring Demo Day event. This year’s celebration not only recognised the achievements of the 2024 participants but also highlighted five years of impactful change within the EWA Türkiye ecosystem.

Award-winning innovations

After pitching their projects to a panel of experts, two standout entrepreneurs were recognised:

  • First Prize (€10,000): İpek Tüysüzoğlu, founder of Yugen Company, which transforms pomegranate peel waste into plant-based leather. This eco-friendly alternative offers a sustainable solution to the textile industry, reducing the environmental impact of both genuine and synthetic leather.
  • Second Prize (€5,000): Saadet Alpdağtaş, founder of Bio4Life, which develops biotechnological processes to repurpose agricultural and industrial waste into biomaterials for the fashion industry.

Celebrating five years of EWA in Türkiye

This year’s Demo Day was followed by a special celebration marking the fifth anniversary of the programme in Türkiye. The event brought together entrepreneurs, mentors, and supporters to honour the collective success and solidarity built over the past five years.

Reflecting on this milestone, the organisers emphasised the importance of empowering women to lead innovative solutions in agrifood and beyond. The programme continues to inspire change, providing tailored training, mentorship, and a supportive network for women entrepreneurs.

A bright future for women in agrifood

The EWA Türkiye programme remains dedicated to fostering innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity within the agrifood sector. This year’s winners exemplify the transformative potential of women entrepreneurs in creating solutions that drive both economic and environmental impact.
