This event has been an opportunity to strengthen ties and exchange knowledge and solutions to boost competitiveness and agricultural productivity, while addressing the need for technological adaptation and the assumption of new skills.
Expo AgriTech 2024 brought together about 8,000 professionals from across the agri-food industry between 26 and 28 November in southern Spain (Malaga). It also featured more than 180 exhibitors and institutional representatives of the highest level in the three days that lasted this first edition of the fair and international congress.
EIT Food did not want to miss the appointment with the leaders in innovation, technology and industry for the agricultural sector.

Our General Manager for Southern Europe, Begoña Pérez Villarreal, participated in the central auditorium in a session on Regenerative Agriculture in which, in addition to presenting the project and the EIT Food programme and sharing some impact data, she moderated a talk on this topic that is so relevant for everyone.
Under the heading “Impact of the application of Regenerative Agriculture”, Begoña introduced the dialogue with one of the farmers who have gone through EIT Food, Felipe Cortines, and the portfolio manager for Southern Europe, Amparo San José.
Begoña introduced the dialogue with one of the farmers who have gone through EIT Food, Felipe Cortines, and the head of the portfolio for Southern Europe, Amparo San José. The difficulties of adopting these practices for the average farmer were highlighted by Cortines, who also pointed out the interest and profitability in the medium term.
Amparo highlighted data and experiences as well as current trends and the importance of the pioneering European project Navarra 360 that has been launched this year in northern Spain.
Innovation for the field and LILAS4SOILS for the soil
Where to find the technology of the future, this is the starting point of the intervention of Juan Zaffora, our Regional Startup Manager for Southern Europe who presented the whole EIT Food entrepreneurship strategy and provided information and value on how to locate and evaluate the innovations available on the market that are adapted to the particular needs of each farm.
“We have to create a great team and be able to attract talent,“ said Juan, who also spoke of consolidating global strategies that incorporate innovation and technology and connections to attract co-founders and potential partners”.
To conclude, Sonia Pietosi, head of the LILAS4SOILS project at EIT Food South, moderated and led the round table on soil monitoring and regeneration, which explained all the milestones and objectives of the project that was presented last September in Bilbao and which plans to develop 5 livings labs located in 6 countries.
Together with Olatz Unamunzaga, Head of Innovation and Technology at Neiker and Carmen Gomez, researcher at CSIC, the latest trends in soil health monitoring, the challenges and difficulties of the sector as well as all the implications that affect business models in Carbon Agriculture were discussed.
EIT Food contributed to this huge event with its knowledge and some of the most relevant programmes in the sector for Southern European countries.
