EIT Food Announces Seedbed Venture Catalyst Partners for 2026-2028
EIT Food is proud to announce the selection of seven world-class venture builders to lead the Seedbed Venture Catalyst programme for the 2026-2028 cycle. These implementing participants have been chosen for their proven ability to transform complex scientific breakthroughs into commercially viable, investor-ready startups that tackle the most pressing challenges in our global food system. The selected implemented participants are: Carbon13, Enviu, FOOD FOUNDERS Studio, Fresh Ventures Studio, Ivoro Ventures, Kost Studio and Zinc.
Sustained Support and Investor-Readiness
A key theme of this new part of the Seedbed suite of programmes is the shift toward sustained, long-term support. The selected builders do not just offer short-term mentorship; they provide the technical and commercial validation required to make deep-tech solutions attractive to institutional investors.
- Ivoro Ventures is a tech transfer venture studio that partners with universities and research centres to transform cutting-edge science into venture-ready companies. Their venture-building approach focuses on agritech, foodtech and nutrition, spanning areas such as bio-based solutions, novel food, precision nutrition, microbiome technologies and climate-smart agriculture.
- Kost Studio utilizes "research sprints" to develop functional ingredients for new and better food products, focusing on leveraging existing infrastructure and pilot plants to accelerate the path to market.
- Zinc provides a structured environment for mission-led founders to tackle the most significant challenges in the food system, fostering deep collaboration across its cohorts.
Solving the "Founder Gap"
A recurring challenge in deep tech is the mismatch between scientific brilliance and commercial experience. Venture Building proactively solves this by:
- Curated Matchmaking: as seen in the Carbon13 model, they specifically seek out "unlikely founders," pairing high-level scientists (PhDs and hardware engineers) with seasoned commercial entrepreneurs.
- Fractional Leadership: FOOD FOUNDERS Studio often provide fractional CEOs or CTOs in the early stages, allowing a project to grow under professional leadership before it can afford a full-time executive team.

The Role of Venture Building in Agrifoodtech
Venture building is a specialised model of startup creation that has become particularly vital in high-stakes, research-heavy sectors like agrifoodtech. Unlike traditional accelerators, which wait for a team to form before providing mentorship, venture builders (or "venture studios") act as co-founders from day one.
Agrifoodtech startups face a unique set of hurdles. Unlike traditional software startups, building a food tech or agritech startup brings the founders face to face with the harsh realities of biological complexity, stringent regulatory pathways, soil, climate, weather and seasonality, not to mention complex supply chains and the need to access patient, large scale capital. This creates a "valley of death" where high-potential research fails to reach the market due to a lack of commercial expertise or long-term capital.
The Seedbed Venture Catalyst programme is designed to bridge this gap. By partnering with our dedicated venture builders, EIT Food ensures that discoveries move out of the lab and become real-world innovations that can scale.
