EIT Food and the EIT Community Water Scarcity invites you to the “Water Wheel” challenge: a five-day bike trip to sensitise about water scarcity, becoming conscious about how much water we use in our daily life, reflecting and learning together about how to reduce our waste and impact on the planet.
The challenge is executed by the Spanish Association Mar de Tierras, in representation of EIT Food, and it is open to any motivated adult that can ride a bicycle for about 65km a day and want to share this collaborative experience. From 21st to 25th September, with Segovia (Spain) as starting and ending point, 25 people will ride together on a 300 km circular route, visiting sustainable initiatives and organic producers, while offering workshops at the villages we pass by to learn and getting inspiration from local people and to exchange good practises around water use and responsible consumption.
We will take water quality measures at the main rivers in the area, such as the Eresma or Duero and will gather a list of all the products, food, transports and other resources we use along the trip, in order to make a calculation of our water footprint, to encourage local consumption and find together solutions to reduce the water use and adapt to the water scarcity.
As a closing event, around the Climate Change World Day (24th of October), we will hold an event to present the results of the project, including awareness activities and workshops to sensitize the general public.
The event will be held in Spanish.
