New Scientist Live

Join us at the biggest Science event, New Scientist Live, from 7th-9th October 2023 to inspire others to learn about healthy and sustainable food! 

About the event 

This event is about celebrating Science. From the ocean, to space, to our passion – the food industry. The event will have speakers from well-known names to up-and-coming researchers. Across four stages, there will be over 50 speakers to learn from, which you can hear from by attending in person or tuning in online. 

How is EIT Food involved 

Food careers are exciting, extremely high-tech and a high-skilled industry. We need people who care about food to join the sector and make the change we require. From challenges regarding climate change, growing food, new proteins, and sustainable production, we welcome all those that have the passion to make a difference. 

We will have a stand at the event accompanied by some of our partners and startups to talk with you about the opportunities on offer and how to get involved. If this sounds like you, come and see us and discover the exciting opportunities on offer within the agrifood industry. Whether you want to be a food scientist, engineer, a packaging designer or a chef, there is something for everyone.  

Throughout the event, we will have different zones for attendees to visit, but what are they? 

• Let’s play zone: We will have activities which are based on protein diversification and healthy diets. We will also have an activity which you can get involved in where you can learn where to store food in your fridge in order to maximise shelf-life.  

• Quiz zone: Test your knowledge! You can take part in our quiz and discover how much you know about food systems. 

• Meet the expert zone: You will meet experts in different fields of the food industry and take part in engaging activities to further your knowledge about the food industry. Find out more about the experts below! 

• Let’s chat zone: Get to know EIT Food! We are there for you and would love to chat about our organisation and our goals within the industry!

Who is involved?  

Mimica: One of EIT Food’s partners Mimica, will be sharing their knowledge about food waste and showing us an exciting invention to combat food waste which tells you whether food is fresh or spoiled in real-time! No more second guessing those forgot foods in the fridge! 

Crover Tech: Learn about how drone technology can help to monitor the quality of grains that are used in our food! 

University of Reading: An EIT Food partner, will be hosting an activity all about food packaging. Discover how to recycle different types of food packaging (including those that you’re not sure if they can be recycled!)

About EIT FoodEducators 

FoodEducators is an EIT Food programme that aims to promote healthy and sustainable food choices among young people and encourage them to be the agents of change that our food system needs. 

We provide teachers with fun, creative and interesting activities to disseminate to young people, mainly schoolchildren. Our easily accessible, science-based food education materials enhance students’ learning so they can become better informed, conscious consumers of the future.
