Shaping local impact: EIT Food RIS Policy Council meets in Warsaw
For the first time representatives of EIT Food RIS Policy Council, EIT Food Hubs and EIT Community Officers gathered together in Warsaw to discuss strategic collaboration in advancing Europe’s innovation capacity in the food and agriculture sector, where transformation must be not only scalable but also sustainable, resilient, and equitable.
Over 60 people from 22 countries participated in the workshop aimed at translating EIT Food Missions to the local context of Southern and Central Eastern European countries. Participants covered the following topics:
🌱 Shortening supply chains and ensuring food access for vulnerable groups
🌱Reducing food waste and optimising food donation systems
🌱Tackling childhood obesity and improving dietary habits among older populations
🌱Protein diversification
🌱 Sustainable agricultural practices
🌱Functional food production
🌱 Food safety and quality systems
🌱Innovative food packaging
Additionally, a keynote speech by Natalia Boitot, vice-chair of the Eurocities Food Working Group inspired participants to apply systemic thinking and human centred design to addressing agrifood challenges at the local level.
Next meeting of EIT Food RIS Policy Council is planned for October in Brussels as a side-event to Next Bite 2025.
