The Canary Islands are strengthening their position as a gateway to the European innovation ecosystem thanks to the “EIT Days Canary Islands: Driving Innovation in the Canary Islands”, organized by the EIT Community Hub Spain in collaboration with ACIISI.

Over two days, in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, companies, universities, technology centres, clusters, and entrepreneurs explored the opportunities offered by the EIT, particularly for ultra-peripheral regions.

On the first day, September 30 in Las Palmas, the strategic role of the Canary Islands within the European ecosystem was highlighted, alongside the EIT’s nine Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs).

“EIT is committed to unlocking the full potential of innovative people in the Canary Islands. We want to strengthen local ecosystems and ensure a lasting impact.”

- Martin Kern, Director at EIT

The day showcased local innovation projects in sectors such as gaming, digitalization, agri-food, and health, and highlighted the accessibility of European funding in a roundtable with EIT Food, EIT Health, EIT Digital, EIT Raw Materials, and EIT Urban Mobility.

On the second day, October 1 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, examples of European projects with Canary Islands participation were presented, including INCORE, IDEATION, and BIOTECH VENTURE, along with innovative startups such as Rethink Medical and MagTech.

“With our new hub, we want to give a strong boost to collaboration and showcase the opportunities we offer to entrepreneurs, universities, and companies.”

- Laura Ovies, EIT Community Hub Manager

Meanwhile, Javier Franco, Director of ACIISI, highlighted the strategic value of this integration:

“Accessing European programs not only provides funding, but also knowledge, international networks, and the possibility of turning ideas into projects with global impact.”

With the creation of the EIT Community Hub Spain and activities like EIT Days Canary Islands, the archipelago is advancing towards full integration into the European innovation ecosystem, promoting collaboration, talent, and sustainable development.
