NuHCaS stands for Nutrition Health Care System. It's an open expertise research and innovation center that combines the disciplines of Nutrition, Health and Care in a systemic approach. The aim is to promote quality of life and health by making better use of the potential of nutrition. NuHCaS brings the food and health sector together in the NuHCaS community to come up with demand-driven, impactful innovations and solutions.
To this end, it
- maps the needs in the field of food and health and facilitate collaborations;
- initiates and stimulate multidisciplinary, evidence-based research into the impact of food on health. We combine expertise of different actors from the broad spectrum, ranging from strategic basic research to implementation of the research results in practice;
- opens up existing infrastructure in Flanders and expand it where necessary;
- shares knowledge in the NuHCaS community to achieve implementation in society;
- engages in dialogue with policy makers.
This happens in a networked (with research centres in Flanders and with foreign partners) and practice-oriented setup (with, among others, food companies, suppliers, catering companies, care and health actors, policy, patient organisations and end users).
NuHCaS was founded in Flanders, Belgium. We have the ambition to grow into a Flemish and European center of expertise on food and health. For the moment, we work already closely with partners in the Netherlands.
