Putting Food on the Table: Family Farmers at the Heart of Climate Action
The proposed thematic topic focuses on enhancing climate resilience through targeted climate financing for family farmers' organizations. Family farmers are critical to global food security, producing over 80% of the world's food in value terms. However, they are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, yet receive only a fraction of international climate finance, just 0.3% of the international climate public funds.
The discussion will explore current barriers, opportunities for scaling up support, and strategies for implementing long-term, farmer-led solutions. It will also underscore the importance of recognizing and protecting family farmers' land rights, as secure land tenure is fundamental to their ability to invest in sustainable practices and build resilience against climate impacts. Additionally, the session will emphasize the need for greater recognition of family farmers' catalytic role in sustainable agriculture and their inclusion in policymaking processes and funds to contribute to resilient, sustainable, and equitable food systems worldwide. Furthermore, it will highlight the importance of engaging and improving partnerships with other relevant stakeholders.
