Kurdistan Region of Iraq:
Climate resilient: Food, Water security and sustainable agriculture in a changing climate
The Kurdistan Region has abundant potential for agricultural production due to its fertile soil, available water resources and favourable climate. This makes the region well suited for growing various crops, fruits and raising livestock. However, it faces numerous challenges, including environmental degradation, climate change, water access, and socio-economic instability.
With the increase in the population of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq of about 1 million per year, the demand for water and food have increased significantly. With this and the low competition, the market has great potential and advantages for new investments.
The agricultural and water sectors has been identified as a priority by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), with the goal of achieving food security and making agriculture and food a major component of the economy. In addition, global partners are ,increasingly, enrolling in works with the KRG for better future.
This event aims to explore innovative strategies and investment opportunities that can enhance the resilience of food systems in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, ensuring food and water securities and sustainable livelihoods for its communities.
