About Business Creation and Investment Activities
Business Creation supports innovative and impactful agrifood entrepreneurs in launching, accelerating, and scaling new food innovations and businesses across Europe. Through our flagship entrepreneurship programs like the SeedBed Incubator, EIT Food Accelerator Network, and RisingFoodStars, we provide training, funding, and access to a pan-European network to support startups from pre-seed to Series A funding stages.
The EIT Food Investment Team operates as an internal venture capital fund, providing direct equity investments of up to €1.5 million to high-performing agrifood businesses that contribute to our mission of creating a healthier, more sustainable, and resilient food system. We exclusively invest in EU agrifood startups that are alumni or current participants of our entrepreneurship programs, enabling us to support and scale businesses driven by innovation and impact.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Investment Analyst Trainee, you will be part of our dynamic Investment team (currently 3 members) and report directly to the Senior Investment Manager. Your key responsibilities will include:
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deal Sourcing and Screening: Identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities in high-impact agrifood startups across Europe. Assist in performing due diligence on promising opportunities.
- Analysis: Conduct comprehensive analyses, including impact assessment, business viability, market dynamics, financial assessments, and industry evaluations.
- Knowledge Building: Continuously expand your expertise in the agrifood sector through in-depth research and engagements with subject matter experts.
- Portfolio Management: Support the value creation process of our portfolio companies by working closely with the Investment team.
- Strategy: Contribute to the development of our investment strategy and processes.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- A relevant business, science or bioengineering degree with a strong academic track record.
- Demonstrated interest in impact investing, agrifood innovation, and sustainability.
- Initial work experience in the agrifood, investment or consulting industry is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of other EU languages is a plus.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work independently and in a multicultural team environment.

CONTRACT TYPE
Full time temporary position. The initial contract will be for 6 months, with the possibility of a permanent contract afterwards.
LOCATION & TRAVEL FREQUENCY
This role is based in Leuven, Belgium, with a hybrid work arrangement (1-3 days per week in the office). Business travel within Europe may be required (up to 2 days per month).
