COVID-19 Response

Europe’s food system has come under unprecedented pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic that requires an urgent and coordinated response. As Europe’s leading food innovation initiative, EIT Food has launched two initiatives to support the agrifood sector in its time of need.

As part of the EIT’s Crisis Response Initiative, this activity directly contributes to the European Union’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

EIT Food has launched two funding opportunities to support the European agrifood sector through the COVID-19 crisis:

  1. COVID-19 Bridge Fund – this Call will support startups and scaleups with high-impact and growth potential that have been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic;
  2.  COVID-19 Rapid Response Call for Innovation projects – this Call will help accelerate impactful projects that address business and consumer needs throughout the food system in Europe

EIT has unlocked 60 million euros to support its Crisis Response Initiative. After evaluation of the submitted Call for Proposals by the EIT Governing Board, EIT Food has been awarded 10.25 million euros. More details on the selected innovation projects and agrifood ventures can be found on the COVID-19 Rapid Response Innovation page and the Bridge Fund page.

Regional Innovation Scheme

The EIT Food RIS strategy focuses on enhancing development within the agrifood sector by implementing activities related to innovation, education, business creation and communication in RIS countries and regions. This outreach scheme is open to students, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and consumers and it’s aimed at upgrading their skills and taking full advantage of their creativity.

EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS)

Fostering transformation in European regions with modest to moderate agrifood innovation rates.

The EIT RIS is the EIT Community’s outreach scheme introduced in 2014 to share good practices and experience emerging from EIT Community activities. The EIT RIS opens up the activities of EIT’s Innovation Communities to innovators that are not partners, by providing targeted support to individuals and organisations to take part in and benefit from EIT Innovation Communities’ activities, services and programmes.

The objective of the EIT RIS is to contribute to boosting the ability to innovate of countries and regions in Europe that belong to the groups of so-called ‘modest and moderate’ innovators (according to the European Innovation Scoreboard).

EIT Food Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT Food RIS)

EIT Food RIS aims at strengthening those regions in Europe which are modest and moderate in terms of innovation in agrifood sector. This outreach scheme is open to innovators that are not partners of EIT Food and provides targeted support to EIT RIS stakeholders through a portfolio of projects.

By bringing all players together we want to build a shared vision for the future of food and a shared agenda to transform it and make it better.
