Food integrity related problems are impacting society and business: companies are losing credibility and money, and consumers are losing trust food. The main goal of this proposal is to create a pioneering Citizen Science initiative to enhance citizen´s trust based on science. Citizen science occurs when people help to conduct scientific research to generate science-based knowledge that contributes to understand and transform the system. Citizens will become amateur scientist to fight the food integrity challenge in Europe.
This project will connect scientist and change-makers that want to contribute to a better food system. It is science we can do together and makes the difference. This proposal will improve public knowledge to flow between food researchers and citizens, feeling as being part of a more transparent food system. It will also provide skills and awareness for a deeper understanding of scientist and the role of science to move forward a better world. Professionals will get data that allow decision making process and promote innovative solutions through the food chain. Food industry will turn more effective and competitive, minimizing the economic impact of food authenticity and safety potential problems. The Citizen Science initiative will connect people and science, creating a new culture that humanizes science and turns to a more democratic food research based on evidence provided by citizens.
