Communication

EIT Food is the first KIC to actively encourage the participation of all European Citizens. The partnership will actively promote and support a shift in engagement from consumers as passive recipients to citizens as enthusiastic change agents. This will be achieved through multiple initiatives, such as consumer-led innovation campaigns and a digital platform (MyFoodPortal) which will be a reference point for Europe and the globe.

EIT Food has clustered its Consumer Centricity activities in three overarching programmes, which will structure proposals from project partners in the different Calls: Access, Explore and Network.

In 2019, the Access Programme will launch MyFoodPortal, an online consumer collaboration platform. The platform aims to initiate and drive the conversation between academia, industry and consumers. This interactive community will be a place to interact and learn about a healthy lifestyle and sustainable choices in the digital age. The aim is to create a community where information is reliable, trustworthy and provided by and for its’ users.

The Explore Programme of EIT Food will address the needs of the consumer and citizen. EIT Food’s five CLCs will organise a series of fairs, exhibitions and other initiatives and events in schools and in public places to facilitate learning and understanding with citizens of all ages. These events will increase public knowledge and interest in food related topics by providing opportunities to experience new products, services and technologies and to share information in interactive formats. Showrooms will be set up in public places (e.g. airports) to talk about the project’s results, to make innovations tangible to the public, and to test first prototypes

Ambassadors with the publicity, credibility and respect to influence a large audience (e.g. famous cooks), will be selected to promote EIT Food activities and topics. Thanks to an ongoing cooperation with public authorities, EIT Food will also set up the Citizen Participation Forum as a new regular public conversation format which will feed into into a structured dialog with different actors.

EIT Food partners and their peers will primarily be addressed through the Network Programme. In particular, the annual European EIT Food Summit, will bring together all KIC and network partners, key industry stakeholders, policy makers and scientific experts, to present current and future programmes, the different projects and their outcomes and to discuss food-related topics in different formats.

Pillar Support: as well as the above programmes, the communication team offers continued support to the other functional areas – education, business creation and innovation – with relevant communication and dissemination tools for their activities, including measures to maximize reach and engagement with all of EIT Food’s audiences.
