Call for Regenerative Agriculture Farmer-to-Farmer Trainers
About the Farmer to Farmer Training Programme
To promote and facilitate the transition to regenerative agriculture, EIT will launch a farmer-to-farmer training programme that will allow farmers experienced in sustainable farming methods to share their knowledge with others who are interested in following their path. It is expected that participants in the programme will learn about and later implement the basic principles of regenerative agriculture such as minimal or no use of agrochemicals, cover crops, minimal soil disturbance, maximum biodiversity, integration of crops and livestock and context-specific design.
The role of the farmer trainer will be to prepare and deliver a comprehensive training session on regenerative agriculture methods as they apply to the trainer’s area of expertise. The course will be taught on a regenerative farm so that the transitioning farmers can see up close the results of regenerative agriculture and visualize what a successful outcome might look like on their own farms.
About the Call
In its first year, the programme will run from July until December of 2020 and will include the following steps:
- Meetings with interested farmers to find out their concerns about transitioning from conventional to regenerative agriculture.
- Design and preparation of course material in the area of your expertise with the support of the Curriculum Developer.
- Delivery of training sessions which will include lectures, readings, workshops and visits to successful, regenerative farms.
- Beginning of a 3-year transition period during which farmers will implement their action plan with the support of advisors.
If you are interested working with EIT Food to teach farmers how to transition to regenerative agriculture please fill out the application form included in the Call and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject title Application - Farmer Trainer for Regenerative Agriculture before 2 July 2020.
