Deadline: 06 July 2020

About the Farmer-to-Farmer Training Programme

To promote and facilitate the transition to regenerative agriculture, EIT will launch a farmer-to-farmer training programme that will allow farmers experienced in sustainable farming methods to share their knowledge with others who are interested in following their path. It is expected that participants in the programme will learn about and later implement the basic principles of regenerative agriculture such as minimal or no use of agrochemicals, use of cover crops, minimal soil disturbance, maximum biodiversity, integration of crops and livestock and context-specific design.

The role of the agricultural advisor will be to support the participating farmers as they transition from conventional to regenerative agriculture practices. After attending the training session, the advisor will be asked to mentor five or more of the programme participants during the transition period. His/her responsibility will be to periodically visit the farmers to help them design their farms, guide them through the transition process and access new markets.

About the Call

In its first year the programme will run from July until December of 2020 and will include the following steps:

  • Delivery of training programme by farmer trainers.
  • Taking of baseline measurements on transitioning farms to determine soil and crop quality.
  • Drafting of action plans by participating farmers with the help of advisors describing how they intend to transition to regenerative agriculture.
  • Beginning of a 3-year transition period in which farmers will implement their action plan with the support of advisors.

If you are interested in working with EIT Food to advise farmers on how to transition to regenerative agriculture, please, fill out the application form included in the Call and send it to philip.fernandez@eitfood.eu with the subject title Application - Advisor for Regenerative Agriculture before 30 June 2020.
