Students’ work on innovative side stream solutions during RIS Venturing School 2019 in Olsztyn

11 December 2019 North-East, Poland, News The seven-day training managed by professional tutors was a great opportunity for young researchers to improve their entrepreneurial skills and use their scientific experience and university knowledge to create new concepts towards sustainable management of side streams in the food industry.

Students’ work on innovative side stream solutions during RIS Venturing School 2019 in Olsztyn

Between 23th and 29th of May 2019, 41 undergraduate students, PhD candidates and young professionals from 11 RIS regions (Armenia, Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Moldavia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia) took part in the EIT Food RIS Venturing School workshop, held in Olsztyn, Poland. Participants worked in interdisciplinary teams, identifying problems, prototyping viable solutions with a validated value proposition and pitching their projects in front of a panel of experts under the general topic of “Innovative side streams solutions in the food industry”. They interacted with founders of successful Polish agri-food startups, recognizing valuable business models and managerial competences.

Moreover, participants had an opportunity to attend a scientific conference VIIth International Session for Young Researchers, where they presented the results of their own research during a special English session. Finally, they visited a local fruit and vegetable processing plant Tymbark in Olsztynek and got familiarized with the latest innovations in the food production sector.

 

The EIT Food RIS Venturing School was organized by Matis (Iceland), University of Cambridge (England), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS (Poland).
