After a keen interest, with a flood of applications from startups across Italy, 10 startups were selected to compete in the AgriFood Demo Day in Bari. On the 26th of July, each start-up had 5 minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of judges and a live audience.
The winning startups in the Italian Demo Day were 3bee, who develops systems that improve bee management and bee health; and EvJa, the first Intelligent Support System based on sensors and artificial intelligence that helps farmers to make the best decisions, prevent plant diseases and deal with an increasingly unpredictable climate. The first prize of 10,000 Euros to 3bee and the second prize, of 5,000 Euros, to EvJa respectively.The Innovation Grants competition takes place in fifteen countries in Southern and Eastern Europe.
Prior to the event, the selected startups received training on how to improve their pitching and communication skills. Furthermore, during a speed dating session, experts from different sectors (Daniela Sani - ASTER, Antonio Pepe – Farmalabor, Roberto De Nicolò, Patrizio Altieri - IC406, Antonella Lavanga - T3 Innovation, Antonello Leogrande – start up lawyer, Piergiuseppe Lapecorella – financial advisor, Pierpaolo Caliandro – Puglia Sviluppo, Angelo Tafuro - Banca Sella, Simona Miglietta - Banca Intesa, MiGreenFood - Eggplant) showed their support and gave useful advice to EIT Food Innovation Prizes finalists.
