09 March 2018 EIT Food Projects The programme will support upcoming innovators in the area of entrepreneurship and business creation, through an intensive curriculum of tailored seminars and workshops. Participants will leverage the knowledge and expertise of a diverse consortium of EIT Food industry partners and benefit greatly from the one-to-one mentoring of an academic partner institute. During a period of 9 months, the GFV program will bring together talented researchers with technology experts, mentors and investors to prototype viable solutions with validated value propositions, and therefore tackle challenges across the food and agriculture industry. Unlike any other European entrepreneurship programme, GFV participants  will have the unique opportunity to visit two key international entrepreneurship ecosystems (Israel and the Silicon Valley), pitch their ideas internationally, and network with key players from the food & agtech space.

EIT Food’s Global Food Venture (GFV) programme supports 30 highly-motivated PhD students from across Europe to turn their research into successful business concepts in the food & agtech space.

The programme will support upcoming innovators in the area of entrepreneurship and business creation, through an intensive curriculum of tailored seminars and workshops. Participants will leverage the knowledge and expertise of a diverse consortium of EIT Food industry partners and benefit greatly from the one-to-one mentoring of an academic partner institute. During a period of 9 months, the GFV program will bring together talented researchers with technology experts, mentors and investors to prototype viable solutions with validated value propositions, and therefore tackle challenges across the food and agriculture industry. Unlike any other European entrepreneurship programme, GFV participants  will have the unique opportunity to visit two key international entrepreneurship ecosystems (Israel and the Silicon Valley), pitch their ideas internationally, and network with key players from the food & agtech space. 

The programme is suitable for early stage (pre-seed) start-ups if co-founded or co-led by a current PhD student. The GFV programme is sponsored by EIT Food so that no financial contributions will be required by the PhD students.

Key activities and time scope:

• Tailored, one-to-one virtual mentoring by a partner institute (9 months)

• 1 week bootcamp by TU Munich (Jun 2018)

• 10 day visits in two international ecosystems, Israel and the Silicon Valley (Jul, Nov 2018 respectively)

• Food & agtech conference in Europe with final pitches and a best start-up award (€50K prices!) by EIT Food (Dec 2018)

Everything you need to know

Program´s duration and locations: During a period of 9 months you will receive virtual mentoring on entrepreneurial matters by a GFV partner institute, attend a 1-week bootcamp in Munich and spend 2 X 10 days internationally in Israel and the Silicon Valley respectively. The work on your technology will be executed in parallel to the programme at your home institute. At the end of the programme you´ll pitch your project at the GFV conference (Europe location TBD) 

Who can apply: PhD students from any European institute with an innovative idea and/or early stage technology from the food & agtech space

How can I apply: Document requirements:
-Motivation letter (max 1 page);
- CV (max 2 pages);
- Video pitch of 1 min; 
- Start-up description (template can be downloaded here)

+ Innovative idea and/or early stage technology from the agrifood value chain with potential impact in the field

+ Potential to commercialise or demonstrated market need

+ Entrepreneurial mindset and motivation to bring the idea to the market

+ Likely benefit from the programme

+ Environmental sustainability and social impact of the idea

When will I be notified: At the latest 30. April 2018

What is the cost: Successful candidates will receive a fellowship, which will be utilised to cover all of their mobility costs (travel, subsistence and attendance expenses)
