EWA alumna behind EU-funded innovation in personalised nutrition
GUNDO, a startup founded by alumna Priscila Silva, has secured €300,000 in EU funding for its personalised nutrition platform GENIE, developed in collaboration with Ametller Origen. The project was born out of connections made during EIT Food’s EWA programme and demonstrates the power of supporting women-led innovation in agrifood.
GUNDO, a startup founded by Priscila Silva, alumna of the 2023 EWA programme in Spain, is now leading one of the most promising personalised nutrition projects in Europe thanks to the support and connections fostered by EIT Food.
During her participation in the Empowering Women in Agrifood (EWA) programme, GUNDO was in the process of pivoting from a B2C model to a B2B strategy. That transformation, guided by expert mentoring and network opportunities within EWA, positioned the startup for rapid growth.
The turning point came at the EIT Food Demo Day, where GUNDO won second place and established a key partnership with Ametller Origen, one of Spain’s leading food retailers. This collaboration laid the foundation for GENIE (Genomic Evaluation and Nutritional Integration Experience), a personalised nutrition platform that has since been awarded €300,000 in EU funding through the DRG4Food initiative.
EWA helped me connect with key allies who accelerated our growth. It came at a decisive moment for GUNDO.
Personalised nutrition, powered by science and driven by collaboration
GUNDO’s platform uses genetic, microbiota and blood biomarker data to provide highly personalised nutritional guidance. Through a user-friendly digital experience, individuals receive:
-
Tailored food product recommendations directly linked to available inventory at Ametller Origen
-
Personalised recipes and nutrition plans
-
A “nutriscore” to evaluate the quality of their shopping basket
-
Full data privacy and security through a European-compliant digital vault
The technology is currently being piloted in Catalonia and will soon expand into new sectors, including fitness and wellness.
In addition to the ongoing pilot with Ametller Origen, GUNDO is now preparing a second test in collaboration with Eroski, a major national retailer in Spain. While the Ametller pilot focuses on personalised recommendations for end consumers, the Eroski initiative will test a decision-making dashboard designed to support retailers in optimising their product assortments based on nutritional data. This initiative is being developed within the framework of EIT Food’s Straight2Market (S2M) programme, which supports startups in validating their solutions in real commercial environments.
For GUNDO, it represents a key opportunity to explore a complementary B2B application of its technology, focused on strengthening the nutritional profile of retail offerings.
GENIE would not exist without that initial visibility and support from EIT Food.
From EWA to EU-level success
The story of GUNDO demonstrates how the EWA programme by EIT Food can play a critical role in accelerating women-led innovation in agrifood. With the right mentorship, visibility and ecosystem support, women entrepreneurs can unlock new growth opportunities, build strategic partnerships and access funding at European level.
GUNDO is now working towards:
-
Achieving €20,000 in monthly recurring revenue by the end of 2025
-
Closing a €1.5 million seed funding round
-
Scaling its platform with food retailers and digital platforms across Europe
