Connecting agri-tech companies and scale-up facilities in Iceland event

EIT Food North-West will host agri-food and agri-tech businesses in Iceland in October 2022.

EIT Food North-West has teamed up with Matis, Orkidea, Iceland Ocean Cluster and Rannis to connect food businesses and scale up facilities from the UK with those in Iceland, a country renowned for sustainable and innovative food production.

We will host a ‘show and tell’ for SMEs, agrifood support organisations and scale-up facilities to connect and collaborate, in an event which will take place in Iceland on the 3rd-5th October 2022.

Launch of EIT Food North West’s report into Controlled Environment Agriculture

On Wednesday 5 October, Orkidea in Selfoss will host the launch of EIT Food North West’s report into Controlled Environment Agriculture, with insights from Icelandic and UK businesses and universities.

    Event Format

    The event will consist of listen-in sessions, breakout sessions, tours of facilities and plenty of networking opportunities. We’ve planned the event so it’s interactive and relaxed, with a mix of structured sessions and site visits.

    • Tuesday 4th October: The Icelandic marine industry: innovation and 100% Fish - Hosted by Iceland Ocean Cluster, Reykjavik
    • Wednesday 5th October: Exploring controlled environment agriculture - Hosted by Orkidea in Selfoss, South of Iceland

    Let’s experience Iceland!

    We will host meals, so you can explore local cuisines. We will arrange visits to businesses, glasshouses, geothermal plants and the chance to see the unique autumnal land and seascape in the South of Iceland

    Important Details

    • The event will take place on Monday 3rd October-Wednesday 5th October 2022.
    • The dates either side of the event are travel days.
    • You do not have to stay for the entirety of the event! We appreciate that 3 days is a big commitment, so attend as much of the event as you’d like!

    Matis specialises in research and development in the food industry with an emphasis on innovation and added value. Matis’ projects are carried out in collaboration with domestic food producers, universities and all those who provide services to the food industry.

    Orkidea is a collaborative project to promote innovation in South Iceland between Landsvirkjun Power Ltd, Association of municipalities in Southern Iceland, the Agricultural University of Iceland and the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture. Its objective is to increase value creation and facilitate energy-related opportunities, in high-tech food production and biotechnology.

    Iceland Ocean Cluster’s mission is to create value by connecting together entrepreneurs, businesses and knowledge in the marine industries. To serve this mission they provide a range of services and invest resources in new marine spin-offs and projects.

    Rannis provides support for research and innovation, managing national competitive funds and Iceland’s participation in EU programmes.
