The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) sets ambitious targets for reducing single-use packaging. Among these is a strong push for packaging reuse, placing pressure on the food sector and policymakers to develop scalable and effective reuse models that align with regulatory goals.This session explores emerging reuse models, the practical and systemic barriers they encounter, and the enabling conditions for scaling these solutions. Drawing on insights from academic research and real-world experimentation, it examines how design, logistics, consumer behaviour, and policy interact to shape viable reuse systems.Building on the collaborative momentum of the EIT Food-supported convening activity - where a diverse group of stakeholders co-developed key insights into packaging reuse - we now turn to the pressing question: how can reuse move from pilot projects to mainstream adoption? The session will also highlight the role of the EIT Food ecosystem in driving this transition and supporting scale-up.
