A New Arquitecture for the Just Transition of Food Systems

// // Plenary

Host: Food Roots and Routes, ACT, OXFAM Brasil

Food systems are responsible for about one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions, but receive a minimal share of public climate finance, perpetuating a production model that widens inequalities, degrades natural resources, and ignores its hidden social costs. In Brazil, this inconsistency is reflected in a fiscal policy that directs billions in subsidies to pesticides, fossil fuels, and large export chains, while reducing the space for sustainable and inclusive investments. The debate proposes a reflection on how to restructure the financial and tax architecture to impact health, climate, and the economy, promoting fair, resilient food systems compatible with global environmental goals.
